Editor’s Letter: April 2026
Welcome to April’s edition of Pets Magazine – a month of light, renewal and the simple, grounding rhythms of life with our animals.
This issue feels particularly special, as we introduce a new voice to our pages. On p.8, we’re delighted to welcome broadcaster and writer Carole Malone with the first in her new column, Murphy & Me. It’s a warm, honest and often quietly funny reflection on life with her Tibetan Terrier – capturing something many of us will recognise instantly: the love, the routines, and those small, daily moments that matter more than we realise.
Elsewhere, we turn our attention to both the uplifting and the urgent.
Our much-loved Paws & Predictions (p.4) returns, offering a light-hearted glimpse into what April’s stars may hold for your pet.
On p.12, Pen Farthing writes powerfully on the ongoing pet abandonment crisis – a sobering reminder that, even in one of the world’s richest nations, many animals are still being left behind. It is a piece that asks us not just to feel, but to pay attention.
For our feline readers, Katie Gwilt returns with The Cat’s Whiskers (p.17), exploring the growing trend of harness training and what it means for modern cat ownership.
And in Cavalier Choices (p.22), we bring you a curated selection of products we genuinely rate – thoughtful, practical and tested with real homes in mind.
Taken together, this month’s issue reflects the full spectrum of life with pets: the joy, the companionship, the responsibility – and the quiet ways they shape our days.
Wishing you and your pets a gentle and joyful April.
