Editor’s Letter: June 2026

The June issue of Pets Magazine celebrates the remarkable bond between people and animals, from our homes and gardens to some of the world’s most challenging environments.

Our popular Paws & Predictions feature returns on p.4 with a playful look at what June’s stars may have in store for your pets.

On p.8, we speak to animal welfare hero Pen Farthing, founder of Nowzad, whose work has taken him from the battlefields of Afghanistan to frontline rescue operations in Ukraine. In a powerful and thought-provoking interview, Pen explains why responsible pet ownership should never end at the airport departure gate.

Broadcaster and columnist Carole Malone returns on p.12 with another heartfelt instalment of Murphy & Me, reflecting on love, loss and the enduring impact our pets leave on our lives.

We’re also delighted to welcome wildlife presenter, filmmaker and conservation advocate Hannah Stitfall to Field Notes on p.15. In a fascinating conversation, Hannah shares her passion for storytelling, wildlife and life behind the lens. Field Notes is kindly supported by Ordnance Survey.

For our feline readers, Katie Gwilt returns on p.19 with The Cat’s Whiskers, offering practical advice on helping cats stay cool, comfortable and safe during warmer weather.

And on p.24, don’t miss our latest Cavalier’s Choices reviews, plus your chance to win a copy of comedian Russell Kane’s delightful new children’s book, When Brian Met Terry.

Whether you’re sharing your home with dogs, cats, horses, rabbits or simply have a love of animals and wildlife, we hope this issue informs, inspires and entertains.

Wishing you and your pets a wonderful June.
