Toothless Cat Seeks Loving Home After a Year in Battersea’s Care

A brave moggie is hoping to find a home at last after spending 12 months in Battersea’s care and undergoing multiple dental surgeries.

Seven-year-old Merlin arrived at Battersea’s Old Windsor centre after the death of a kind member of the public who had been caring for him. Initially nervous and overwhelmed by cattery life, Merlin was placed with a foster carer where he could settle at his own pace.

But his journey didn’t end there. Ongoing dental issues meant he needed two surgeries early on, followed by a third to remove his remaining teeth. Thanks to weeks of dedicated care from staff and volunteers, Merlin eventually received a clean bill of health.

Now fully recovered, he’s blossomed into a sweet, chatty and affectionate companion. Although he’s on a wet-food-only diet, he still enjoys his meals, treats – and plenty of attention.

Gen Gossage, Feline Behaviour and Training Advisor at Battersea, said:

“Merlin has captured all our hearts during his year with us. Although he can be a bit shy at first, once he trusts you, he’ll happily follow you around and curl up on your lap for fuss. Anyone who takes the time to get to know Merlin will be rewarded with a loving, loyal – albeit sometimes dribbly – companion.”

After a long wait, Merlin is ready for a calm, patient home where he can continue to grow in confidence. He’s overcome so much in his seven years and now deserves a family who will love him – gummy smile and all.
